The 21st century war that killed humanity and the plight of the Syrian people — International Council of Eelam Tamils

The international community should step in and stop the genocide of the Syrian people caught in the middle of a war between hegemonic powers.  We vehemently condemn the indiscriminate attacks that is killing and maiming innocent Syrian people and request the international community to intervene immediately on humanitarian grounds and help restore peace.

Over 500,000 innocent civilians have been killed.  There is no discrimination among victims which include children, women, and the elderly.  Several thousands have been abducted, disappeared, and/or incarcerated.  What is appalling is children being molested and murdered.  This is a pattern that the Eelam Tamils faced during the last several decades and the UN did nothing.  The inaction of the UN then is now affecting the Syrian people who are facing similar crimes because the perpetrators know they can get away with it.

The Syrian people with a rich history dating back to the 3rd century is caught in the middle of a power struggle between hegemonic powers and the UN is powerless to stop the carnage. We the Eelam Tamils who are enduring a similar fate because of the failure of the UN can fully empathize with your plight and plead with nations with conscience to act immediately to stop the war.

We hope the temporary ceasefire put forward with the support of the Security Council of the UN will bring much needed atmosphere of normalcy and relief. The ICET welcomes this decision by the UN and call upon the direct and indirect powers to respect this call for ceasefire and let the Syrian people live in lasting peace.
